The iontophoresis is working!

I've been blogging about hyperhidrosis since 2006. This summer I had a realization: I spend more time trying to help others with hyperhidrosis than myself. So I finally went and filled that iontophoresis prescription. And it is working! I have been able to wear sandals and comfortably shake hands. I feel like a new person. It really does make a difference. Keeping up with the treatments is difficult, but even when I skip a week or two, the sweating is not too bad. My goal is not to eliminate all sweat, just to eliminate the excessive hand and foot sweat. A little sweat does not bother me at all.

Thanks to all of you for reading my blog and for all of your support and comments through these years.

Love,
Tiara

Hi, Tiara! I came across your blog and I also have Palmer and planter hh. I have tried the iontophoresis machine as well, but what do you find works best for maintinence? I feel like maybe I'm over doing it, because it's recently stopped working as well as it did at first.

I am sooo happy to hear this. iontophoresis is hard to say and it's not glamorous, and it requires dedication...but it can work incredibly well!! I think of it as a natural way to significantly reduce palmar and plantar hyperhidrosis. Thanks for sharing your success with others. Oh, your link to the wonderful International Hyperhidrosis Society needs updating. They relaunched their site earlier this year and the URL is slightly different. Cheers!

I just found your blog. It really makes me feel better to know that there are other people like me. but my HH is just getting out of control. I'm only 13 and it is so severe. It's definitely gotten worse over the past year, and I've had it since I was 10. I have palmar, plantar and axillary hyperhidrosis. My hands are probably the worst, although I can never wear anything I want and sweat constantly drips down my arms because of my underarm sweat. My hands are so bad now that I hide them at school, because they sweat so badly you can literally see the sweat on them. I live in Florida and there are only about two months of the year when I can live my life a bit easier (nov and dec). And the worst part is, performing is my passion. I want to perform. But I recently quit dance after 10 years and dropped out of my play because I couldn't take the discomfort and embarrassment of HH.I love to sing and play piano, but I can't take lessons because I leave sweat on the piano and I'm scared that I will have to shake hands with my teacher. I've tried lots of treatments such as HyperCare which is prescription, and CertainDri, but neither helped at all. This is ruining my life. I avoid being with friends because dealing with my condition in public is such a hassle. I'm not sure how much longer I can put up with this. I just want to live my life like a normal person. Sometimes I just get so upset. I mean, why me?? School is getting harder and harder. I hate using the computer because I leave sweat on the keyboard and mouse. I mess up all my papers with my gross hands. I don't raise my hand in class because then you can see the sweat on my hand. And I'm becoming antisocial because I avoid situations where my HH will be a problem which is almost all situations. Please Help? Thank you. Reading your blog makes me feel so much less alone.

Hi there, I saw your comment left at 7:44 p.m. I have to say you are much more eloquent than I was at age 13!

I can't really help you through this blog, but I can at least point you to some good resources that you can use to get help. I would visit www.sweathelp.org to find information you can show to your parents about hyperhidrosis. Hopefully you can explore with them some other medical treatments. The ones you mentioned are the first ones to try, and if they are not working, there are other options such as iontophoresis, which is still working for me, by the way. (Surgery is the last resort.)

The website also has stories from other teenagers who have hyperhidrosis. I remember there was one girl from Virginia who even won a beauty pageant! I guess I would have scoffed at that when I was a teenager, as I thought of myself as bit more off-beat and alternative, but I later realized that it was easier in the short-term to reject people than to leave myself vulnerable. But in the long-run, I'm the one who missed out.

The other thing that may help to know is that my sweating got a little better after my teenage years. The older I get, the less I seem to sweat. From what I have read, others have had the same experience.

As you said, you are not alone.

Hi Lisa, Thanks for your comment. I will fix the link. Is it your website? It is awesome. I recommend it over and over, and as I tell people, I am not affiliated with that website. So if it is your website, here is a big round of applause. Ooops...the audio is not working (-:

does the machine stop sweating completely? Like do you still sweat in nervous situations etc.

Hi Tiara.

Please let me know any tips for firngeprints. Everytime I need my prints to be taken it's a mess; I get nervous and start sweting more than usual. Thanks!
