Hyperhidrosis and dating: How to know the love is true

Don't let sweaty palms stop you from dating...that is,
if you want to date someone. I found this beautiful

Do you let hyperhidrosis stop you from dating? I didn't, but I also used to take the edge off my anxiety by drinking alcohol. As you might guess, that's not a good idea.

It took me a few years, but I finally realized that a true love will love you for who you are. I remember the moment when I "came out" as a person with hyperhidrosis to my most significant others. The disclosure turned out to be anti-climatic...my hyperhidrosis didn't seem to phase anyone but myself. I remember one date who replied "Oh, really? I thought your hands were a little sweaty, but I didn't realize it was a big deal to you...so do you want to order some fries together?"

One of my most popular blog posts ever, published in 2007, covers the important topic of hyperhidrosis and dating. Another hyperhidrosis blog, Just a Little Sweat, just posted a lovely story about dating with hyperhidrosis. The author, a classical flutist from New York City, also found someone who loves her, sweat and all.

Love,
Tiara

I find the worst part for me is, when i'm older I want to work in drawing. And i struggle to draw without smearing my artwork, it really is a difficult thing for me to have, since I still have no cure to get rid of it.

Strangely, I found that drinking beer would keep my hands drier. Of course it also made me sweat more from everywhere else :p But ironically my palms sweat less. Have you found that alcohol alleviates any of your symptoms? Great blog. I'm new here and it's a great resource for HH sufferers.

Remy, I hope you will find a way to work in art. Have you explored iontophoresis? Or wearing fingerless gloves? I have found that some mediums work better than others for people with sweaty palms. For example, painting. I sweat the most when I draw in charcoal. What a miserable mess...

Jason, Drinking alcohol made my hands and feet drier. Those are the main areas where I sweat. The drinking however, led to other problems. I'd rather wear swimming goggles than beer goggles! (-:

This blog post really helped me. I have been feeling so down because of my sweating problem and how it will affect me finding a boyfriend. I've never had a boyfriend and my biggest fear is how he would react to my problem. This gives me hope that things will work out for me one day :)

You have really helped several of individuals like me, who have been searching internet from past quite a long time to find detailed information on this particular topic. Thanks.

I used to drink a lot to alleviate the problem and thought I would never find a boyfriend. I would go online and read stories of people with the same problem I have searching for hope somewhere... Don't give up hope and don't let this condition take over your life. Personally Robinul works wonders for me. I take 3 pills each morning before I eat and the sweating goes down dramatically. Ive also noticed that working out each morning and eating healthy really does help with the sweating. I've been with someone for 3 years now and when I "came out" with my hypergydrosis on my hands, armpits, and feet he was like "anddddd..." I still struggle with it everyday; i shy away from colored clothing, and sandals are a no way (blowfish sandals and flats are the only ones i will wear on the rare ocassion), but I always manage to stay true to who I am...if people want to shake my hand and then talk about how sweaty it was by all means go ahead, I've got more important things to think about. There are people out there with much larger struggles and I am not going to live my life in the shadows.
